the parenting expo; an introduction

back in november 2006 i got a “cold call” phone call from a young guy jamie who was fromparenting australia. based in sydney they are {in their own words off their website} “the best parent/child exhibition in Australia. Parenting Australia is an innovative exhibition and entertainment event bringing together the best exhibitors with innovative and essential products for families with ‘content’, ie; entertainment and presentations for Mum’s, Dad’s and Children in a one-stop-shop for Australia ’s families. Leading child and baby care specialists, industry experts, health professionals and the best Australian children’s edu-tainers tour the country with Parenting Australia events ensuring that each show delivers a great day out.”
well jamie went on to explain that in june 2007 the company was putting on the very first parenting expo on the gold coast, for two days at the fairly new and very impressive gold coast convention and exhibition centre. he sent me details and we had a good look at theparenting australia company and what they had planned.
i asked him how he got a hold of me, as we were pretty new to the coast, and he was in sydney, he told me they went through yellow pages and google and picked out the best websites and i was the second photographer he called… nice one.
well it was {is} expensive but not crazy expensive for that type of expo. in the past i’ve been involved in wedding expos, had stands, actually ran two wedding expos back in the day, and attended many different expos… so we know the drill.
so we ended up deciding to invest the money and went for a 3 metre square corner stand {number 47} and also opted in for getting something into every showbag that each attendee will be given. all up that’s costing about $3,500. aussie dollars.
now we have to get our actual presentation & plan together….

that includes getting:
– hiring two 24inch iMacs to display my pictures as looping full screen slideshows.
– the “furniture”- two trestle tables and then buying the black material and getting my mum to sew the table clothes.
– a big pull up display banner for the corner.
– a big canvas print stretched on canvas.
– a few big prints printed on different materials.
– new business cards
– samples from online photo book publishers like qoopblurb & asuka books.

so there is a lot to be done.
i’ll be pretty much working on this fulltime for the next 3 weeks until it’s over.
and so expect to be reading more about it here…
and if you are going to be here on the gold coast at the time of the expo, make sure you come on by and say hello!
